Textbook uses a pen-written style for large learning characters. Readings and sentences keep the modern font.

Common mode prefers WK readings. In +30 modes, extra readings need 30+ dictionary words and at least one example inside the selected max rank.

Controls the Similar Looking Kanji section on Kanji Detail. The marker shows candidates with top-word reading evidence.

Relaxed matching is better for touch screens and faster quiz drawing.

If disabled, add/remove common reading actions apply immediately.

Safe mode hides explicit or potentially offensive entries in words and examples.

Recommended workflow

Quick Start

1

Discover

Search kanji or words by character, meaning, reading, or romaji. Open a result to see readings, examples, grammar, and stroke information.

2

Organize

Add useful kanji and words to custom groups, or start with a preset collection. Groups become focused study sets.

3

Study

Use group flashcards for recall. Kanji Chain begins with a Study Deck that introduces meanings, active readings, and example words.

4

Practice and review

Build a quiz for the skill you want, then return for SRS reviews, reinforcement, and recent-mistake practice.

Explore the app

DictionaryFind kanji and words

Switch between Kanji and Word search. Kanji sets can be filtered by JLPT or school grade, while Word search understands spelling, readings, romaji, and common conjugated forms.

Kanji and Word DetailsUnderstand each item

Kanji Detail combines meanings, active readings, evidence words, similar kanji, components, and animated stroke order. Practice mode checks your strokes with optional hints. Word Detail adds readings, meanings, examples, pitch information when available, and collapsible grammar forms.

Quiz and Kanji ChainTest specific skills

Standard quizzes cover kana, kanji, words, listening, drawing, and verb forms. On’yomi and Kun’yomi questions ask you to select every active reading. Kanji Chain teaches selected kanji first, retries missed steps once, and records a separate Chain Learned status.

Groups and FlashcardsCreate focused study sets

Preset collections provide ready-made sets. Custom groups can be built one item at a time or imported from text. Open a group to inspect its items, start a focused quiz, or run flashcards in due-first order.

Reviews and StatisticsKeep learning over time

Correct and incorrect answers update spaced-repetition skills. Home shows reviews that are due, reinforcement candidates, search history, and recent mistakes. Statistics summarizes activity, accuracy, streaks, and study history.

Settings, Sync, and Offline UseMake the app yours
